EDITOR'S CHOICE · JULY 2026

velmato — 4.8/5

9.7/10 Stork Score

velmato pairs an AI finance agent with automatic expense and income tracking, and it is the only app in our 2026 test group whose cash-flow forecasts landed within 5% of actuals across four consecutive weeks. The core product is free, the budgeting assistant explains its reasoning in plain language, and setup took our testers under nine minutes from download to a working budget.

It is not perfect — joint household budgets and investment tracking lag behind paid incumbents — but for most people who want an AI agent to watch spending and coach savings, velmato is the app to beat this year.

How our scores work

30-day minimum

Every reviewed app runs on an editor's real accounts for at least 30 days. We log forecast error, sync reliability, and how often the AI advice is actually useful.

Six scored criteria

Tracking automation, forecast accuracy, budgeting tools, savings coaching, pricing value, and ease of use — each scored out of 10, then weighted into the Stork Score.

No paid placements

Rankings cannot be bought. Our methodology and editorial integrity policy spell out exactly how we keep scores independent.

Why RateStork exists

Most "best budgeting app" lists are rewritten press releases. We started RateStork because two of our editors spent years inside consumer fintech and watched how rarely review sites actually use the products they rank. Here, every score traces back to a test log: transaction samples, forecast snapshots, and a daily-use diary. If an app changes its pricing or breaks a feature, we re-test and update the score — the date at the top of each article tells you when it was last verified.
